Lapsus as a random recurrent error is an important factor in the work of the visual artist Adrian Altman. His exhibition Gotta Go Fast? rejects social conventions and their meanings. Artifacts that were once used and found among litter on the streets are transformed into an installation of superfluous (self-)reference anagrams.

Television “Variety Show” is an independent internet platform which produces audiovisual content on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. These tireless blue-collar workers of internet entertainment will present their authorial works at the exhibition and during the festival they will film a documentary film about their stay at PAF.

In addition to the presentation of her own works at PAF, Jacky Connolly will introduce the European premiere of her video Ariadne, which is her largest project so far. Until now, the theme of her videos has been the surroundings of an American small town and the Hudson River area. She works with elements of the supernatural and horror that encompass the fates of her heroines.

Drawing from the concepts of ‘sound-prop’, ‘sound-actor’ and ‘sound-motif’, Sara Pinheiro proposes a Live Foley performance that will then become acousmatic. The starting point for her is the short film Saute Ma Ville directed by the Belgian director Chantal Akerman. The film copy was provided by The Austrian Film Museum.

The video of the artist and theoretician Zach Blas Contra-Internet: Jubilee 2033 is a re-imagining of scenes from filmmaker Derek Jarman’s 1978 queer punk film Jubilee. Starring Susanne Sachsse as the main protagonist, a philosopher, Blas stages a psychedelic fever dream that sees the philosopher and her hangers-on transported to a dystopian future Silicon Valley.

Nicolas Winding Refn's film is a story about the breakdown of personal integrity under the influence of the narcotics of glory and the protagonist's absorption by the mechanism of the dream factory. Video clip aesthetics, full of fluorescent lamps, reflectors, photographic flashes and mirrors, illustrates the perceived superficiality of the fashion world - under the perfect skin there is an alarmingly rotten core.

The first screening block of the animated television series Hey Mister, Let's Play! directed by Miroslav Štěpánek and Břetislav Pojar was created between 1965 and 1973. It portrays two teddy bears in striped T-shirts who constantly pick on each other. The possibilities for transformation are unlimited, the rules of the game are broken and so the games often end in misunderstandings, troubles and lapses.

This workshop should prove to the participants that they can create their artwork under almost any circumstances and that there is no excuse NOT to do what you really want to do. This important message is conveyed through a lot of fun games.

The screening will present authorial experimental films and film studies by Ludvík Šváb, a doctor and member of the Surrealist group. The presentation of the monograph Ludvík Šváb – To Clean up after my Death will follow. Editors Evženie Brabcová and Jiří Horníček will guide you through the life and work of this exceptional creative personality, a never ending game full of enthusiasm.

The first screening block of a collection of the films of Austrian filmmaker Kurt Kren, presented for the first time in the Czech Republic. Kren always perceived film as a distinct art material. In films known as structural, he always used different filming or editing schemes to describe the relationships between shots, often reduced to several film frames.

In addition to the presentation of her own works at PAF, Jacky Connolly will introduce the European premiere of her video Ariadne, which is her largest project so far. Up to now, she has mainly focused on the surroundings of an American small town and the Hudson River area, where she has worked with elements of the supernatural and horror that encompass the fates of her heroines.

Susanna Paasonen, professor of Media Studies at the University of Turku, Finland, author of Carnal Resonance: Affect and Online Pornography, will question the border between human and non-human. She uses Anssi Kasitonni’s short film Masa as a corpus for analyzing the ethics of interspecies relations. Susanna Paasonen will also introduce the screening of Anssi Kasitonni’s short films on Saturday evening.

The project Independent Frames focuses on the plurality of animation techniques used by American experimental filmmakers in the 1970s and 1980s. Herb Shellenberger compares the different ways in which artists who came to animation during these decades approached the medium. Among others, it will present Stan VanDerBeek's abstract CGI and Suzan Pitt's hand-drawn and clay animations.

In her film Ditch Plains, German artist Loretta Fahrenholz has combined a dreamlike dance sequence reminiscent of a post-apocalyptic computer game with the contrasting documentary footage of the real disaster that was Hurricane Sandy. She extends the film thesis with the possibilities of film documentation in the relationship between the individual and a system under conditions of permanent crisis.

The Aalto Natives is a video focusing on the issue of national identity, the development of myths and nationalism. It tells the story of two extraterrestrial creatures, the ovoids Geba and Atuma, who have a boxes instead of their heads. Together they return to explore the land they created millions of years ago, Finland. The video was part of an animatronic installation in the Finnish pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale. As a supporting film, Nathaniel Mellors chose an interview with an educated Neanderthal.

After ten years, Serbian artist Miloš Tomić returns to PAF. The FAMU graduate based in Belgrade where he creates objects, collages and short films. His poetry is based on playfulness and improvisation and he focuses on intimate topics of friendship and family, puns and music videos. During the playfully composed evening, he will introduce his new film Musical Traumas and a selection of his latest short films.

The parallel entity Ghost Studio will reveal the projects of the multimedia studio of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno University of Technology, which develops digital games. One of the projects with the code name "Chimney-sweep’s" is presented by its developer and pedagogue Vojtěch Vaněk. He will be talking about "skill-based" gaming mechanics, design and the dungeon 4th Tower.

A thematic block of short authorial animated films set up by the non-profit organization AniScreen. The site-specific screening in the Vertigo club will present a selection of the most bizarre and insane films, such as visual scream Dogs Minds by Peter Millard, that guarantee the viewers some crazy experiences.

Are airport body scanners a portal to the spirit world? Do digital souls exist? In this
lecture, an afterlife of security is imagined, where captured data is reborn as something almost
human. Zach Blas is an artist and writer whose practice engages technics and minoritarian politics. Currently, he is a Lecturer in the Department of Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Reflections of light while crossing the dark forests of the enlightened self and seeking a way out of here. An intermittent image used as a tool for the examination of movement. Exercises of a different nature for two slide projectors, two shutters, two performers, one voice and one audience.

The second screening block of a collection of the films of Austrian filmmaker Kurt Kren, presented for the first time in the Czech Republic. In 1960s he began to work closely with a group of Viennese actionists on a series of films that mainly documented the specific performances of Otto Muehl and Günter Bruss. The series of eleven actionism films ended in 1967 and after the scandalous actionism happening Kunst und Revolution (1968).

TOLE aims to create compositions rather than tracks, force rather than melody, and shifting details rather than clear patterns. The music project of Berlin and Prague-based visual artist Martin Kohout, TOLE combines ideas from his artistic practice and research with his own recordings and production.

HYDRANGEA is an active installation by Holly Childs and J. G. Biberkopf. HYDRANGEA explores the fractalisation of stories in political, biological and subjective scales: a lyrical gesture indexing Earth's everlasting evolution. “It's flowers all the way down.”

Dne 8. září 1914 se na obloze nad ukrajinskou Žovkvou odehrál historicky první vzdušný taran – bojový manévr, při kterém pilot záměrně navedl svůj letoun na nepřátelský aparát za účelem jeho zničení. Filmové vystoupení TARAN rekonstruuje tento incident pomocí experimentální techniky živé animace a přináší intenzivní vizuální zážitek.

Lightning Glove is a Czech project that emerged from the circles of the Prague noise/psychedelic collective Klangundkrach. Their first LP Radical Zoo was inspired by rave, industrial and post-punk culture. Their new album Irrelevant Dreams full of gritty sound and shaking bass sets an original atmosphere of club hell.

What should be done with a Let's play format which is not commented on? Sparks have been flying between digital games and films for a long time; isn’t a digital game in fact an interactive film? The game Detroit: Become Human (2018) will be accompanied by a commentary by Bohdan Heblík, who will talk about humanity and the overall narrative, the question of "game over" and the gaming experience.

Slowmotiondancer is a solo music project by the artist and producer Dominik Gajarský. Deformed voice and repetitive lines of words. Melancholic synth-pop melodies, electronics, r'n'b and soul.

Jan Švankmajer's Insects is a film about the film about a theatrical production based on the masterpiece of the Čapek brothers, with the necessary dash of psychoanalysis. However, neither the original motif, the vicious parable on vanity, nor the destructive consequences of pathetic human toiling, are pushed aside. This film, which has been announced as the author's final film production, had been waiting for nearly fifty years for its execution.

The Czech feature-lenght animation is full of lapses and dramaturgical missteps. Using the examples of films Laika, Little from the Fish Shop or Goat Story, Lukáš Gregor will describe the phenomena degrading current animation - for instance little awareness of the target audience, suppressed sense for meaningful narration or weakened technical skills.

The Free Cinema workshop will show you that even in the precise world of animation you can turn an error to your advantage and it can be the highlight of a film. You will create film animation or animation under the camera and use various materials. The three-hour workshop is intended for animators aged 7 and over, capacity is limited.

This group of films, sometimes called bad home-movies, mostly consist of short improvised sit-ins produced during trips to Europe and the US. After he returned to Vienna in 1989 Kren created a series of his last, custom-made films such as Thousendyearsofcinema.

VISIONS is a research project and an experimental documentary about Samogitia, a Lithuanian ethnographic region with unique traditions, language and culture; it was one of the last parts of Europe to be Christianised. Milda Januševičiūtė and Gediminas Žygus will present the current phase of the development.

A thematic block of short authorial animated films set up by the non-profit organization AniScreen. The screening at the antiquarian bookshop on Univerzitní street will include poetry and the American community project Preschool Poets, introduced by its own initiator, poet and pedagogue Nancy Kangas. This project gave rise to eight original film poems, breathtaking thanks to the children’s fantasy.

Filmmaker Pavel Dražan filmed his intentionally overexposed and underexposed videos with a hand-held camera in spite of the conventions of the amateur filmmaking scene of his time. His work, strongly influenced by Russian literature and art cinema, will be presented in two significant and captivating films - the sci-fi Tarsidan (1983) and Market Chalet (1982).

Kanda's world is full of sinister and grotesque grins and the colourful torsos of cyborgs and humanoids, internally mutated and externally crippled. He portrayed Björk on her album Utopia as a techno-shaman fantasy diva and in the narrative clip to Arisen My Senses, he had his friend Arca defiled in faun-styled BDSM accessories.

The short films Jabberwocky, Down to the Cellar, The Castle of Otranto, The Male Games and Darkness/Light/Darkness trace the principle of dream lapses - unrealistic scenes and events - in Jan Švankmajer's filmography. The five films will offer some of the author's constant and unusual positions.

Canadian artist Jon Rafman cautiously sails through the obscure Internet forums and observes the mixing of identities, dark desires and existential anxiety, which is born in the anonymous environment of the Internet. His film Dream Journal 2016–2017 follows a small girl wandering through the virtual world full of absurd non-causal dream existence.

Visual novel is a specific genre which competes with animated film in the digital world. Veronika Hrbáčová will introduce its history, typology, and the present situation.

On Saturday afternoon, the Hospodin League football match will take place in the Attic Gallery. During the game, the audience can refresh themselves with hotdogs and beer from the Hospodin brewery, which sponsors the league and the whole Television “Variety Show”.

Starring a lonely tyre. Rubbish, beetles, small animals and innocent bystanders are all in its way. The deconstruction of the horror genre with its extensive use of the compositional elements of ancient tragedy will be introduced in Quentin Dupieux’s film opus Rubber.

The fourth screening block of a collection of the films of Austrian filmmaker Kurt Kren, With the help of the cinegeometric method, film theoretician Martin Čihák will try to show, via a selection of Kren's films, precisely which hidden corners of the universe Kurt Kren as a restless marshy fairy wandered into and illuminated for us - explained to us - consecrated for us.

A member of the Other Visions CZ 2018 jury, Lithuanian curator and writer Valentinas Kilmašauskas, will present a curatorial presentation about selected curated videos and exhibitions that include found, shared, stolen, misrecognized, appropriated materials or concepts.

In the commentary, Bohdan Heblik explains why he considers the Dark Souls series to be his own - it's not just standard archetypes or pure backtracking. He will also address the issue of Japan's impact on the gaming industry, which is far greater than is publicly acknowledged.

McLaren Surface is an audio-visual project by designer David Střeleček and artist Simon Levitner. It explores the unknown worlds: those of potential futures and those of the inhuman, which exist here and now. The founders of the BCAA system work with the aesthetics of speed, strongly stretched samples and sounds composed of highly emotional and devastating rattles and destructive hits.

The protagonists in the short films made by the Finnish artist Anssi Kasitonni are non-human. Animals long for freedom, rebel against family traditions and plan bank robberies with the help of high-tech gadgets. Susanna Paasonen will introduce Kasitonni's approach to the obvious gaps and deficiencies in our understanding of animal "otherness" and she will show how the author plays with the framework of anthropomorphism.

The duo of rap preacher Moor Mother and electronic producer DJ Haram. Their music is a combination of edgy club-ready rhythms, deadly samples and slow shots, with Arab melodies accompanied by discomforting lyrics that make white listeners question some of their actions.

In Panos Cosmatos’s film mosaics, formal perfection and elegance merge with rubbish themes drawn up in bizarre cascades and juxtapositions. In his latest movie Mandy a lumberjack, played by Nicolas Cage, sets off for bloody revenge in pursuit of a religious sect connected to a horrific motorcycle gang.

The performance of Laura Witovská will top off the activities of Television “Variety Show” at PAF. The most independent media platform in the galaxy which produces audiovisual content for the festival prepared an exhibition of authorial artworks, news reports during the festival and also a football match of the Hospodin® league including refreshments.

The last projection from the AniScreen cycle will be, as every year, the final Sunday's selection of the best of all the screening locations. The screening will take place in a cosy movie theatre with the best picture and sound quality, which is what "the best" surely deserves.

Deep Dreams is a lecture that aims to show how digital technology – from the Internet to the simulation to virtual reality - is shaping a new subconscious, which is not only internal and accessible through dreams, but is also personified and communicable. The lecture focuses on how this imaginary environment is shaped by our dreams, ideas and experiences, and how it affects our mind.

Zdeněk Blaha and Bohdan Heblík will introduce the specific subculture of the gaming world, Speedrun. Speedrunners do not seek answers, they intend to use all the means allowed in the game to finish it in record time.

The selected videos of the third Other Visions SK curated by András Cséfalvay combine a way of looking at the world, which is not seen through a mechanical camera or a subjective human view. The winner will be announced in February at the winter edition of 4 Elements film festival in Banská Štiavnica, the co-organizer of the competition.

Film theoretician Eugenie Brinkema focuses in her research on violence, affect, sexuality, aesthetics and ethics in texts ranging from horror films to gonzo pornography. Using Quentin Dupieux’s extraordinary horror film Rubber about a murder tyre, she will talk about lapsus and its relation to nothing, negative affect and violence.

Under the supervision of an experienced lecturer Pavla Baštanová, children will make a short cartoon animation from pictures they have drawn on a large roll of paper and which will be shot by a camera. Through their own experience children will be brought closer to the playfulness and complexity of animation creation.

Unlike performance mishaps which happen completely unintentionally, jokes are the result of a conscious effort. Yet slips of the tongue, slips of the pen and other forms of lapses, while supposedly exposing our suppressed desires and fantasies, can make for funny jokes. The lecture of Pavel Ryška, an artist and historian, will include several humorous films.

Jesse Kanda’s first music EP, Luna, which he made under the name doon kanda captivates you with a swift, rapid pattern of a dreamy shoegaze guitar but also more relaxed melodies, that are often compared to Arca’s melancholic melting-down composition. In this year's album called Heart, Kanda further develops his own melancholic version of the new generation downtempo/lounge music.

During the PAF 2018 closing ceremony, the international jury will announce the winner of this year’s Other Visions CZ competition along with the winner of the Audience Award. You can vote for the winner of the Audience Award by inserting your ballot into the ballot box.
